Donatella Versace has presented the new Versace Pre-Fall 2019 Collection in the center of the New York Stock Exchange. This is the first collection by Versace since the controversial announcement this past September that the company had been acquired for $2.1 billion by Michael Kors; a deal expected to be finalized early next year and which received backlash from fans of the fashion house. Donatella is to remain as creative director for the brand, and if anything, her latest collection is an indication that Versace will remain true to its roots no matter what.

The new collection draws inspiration from the Versace archives, from the days of Gianni Versace, to the looks that cemented Donatella as the head of Versace when many doubted she could fill in her brother’s shoes. Highlights of the night included Vittoria Ceretti in a reimagined version of the iconic Medusa safety-pin dress made famous in 1994 by Elizabeth Hurley, and Amber Valletta in a replica of the gown worn by Jennifer Lopez in 2000 with “Love Versace” heart prints replacing the palm trees concept.

Founded in 1978 in Milan, Gianni Versace SpA is one of the leading international fashion design houses and a symbol of Italian luxury world-wide. It designs, manufactures, distributes and retails fashion and lifestyle products including haute couture, prèt-à-porter, accessories, jewellery, watches, eyewear, fragrances, and home furnishings all bearing the distinctive Medusa logo. - GM
