When visiting the Alexander McQueen flagship store on Old Bond Street in London, aficionados of the fashion house are able to get an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at the stories, processes, inspiration, and teamwork behind one of their latest collections: Spring / Summer 2019. The exhibition, ‘Unlocking Stories,’ showcases pieces from the treasury of ideas and clothes by Lee Alexander McQueen, and how Sarah Burton has continued to carry the late designer’s legacy into today’s market.
The installation offers a rare look into the unseen aspects of putting a fashion collection together. Research material and sketches are presented together with exquisite fabrics and textiles, all helping to tell the narrative behind the creative work of tailoring, design, hand made gowns, and how technology has come to influence the industry of fashion. Chilean architect Smiljan Radic designed the flagship store hosting the exhibition. Since its opening, the space has organized a series of events, exhibits, and talks with the aim of inspiring fashion students from all over the world.
