New York City – The Met Gala is one of the most prestigious events in the fashion industry. Traditionally held on the first Monday of May at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, the annual fundraising gala, organized by the editor-in-chief of Vogue, Anna Wintour, brings together some of the most noteworthy figures in fashion, music, and film to celebrate and raise funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. The Met Gala is a highly anticipated and coveted event, not only for the glittering list of attendees but also for its captivating themes, distinctively chosen to set the tone for the evening’s fashion choices. This year, the Met Gala 2023 theme honored and celebrated the iconic influence of the late designer Karl Lagerfeld (1933-2019), a legendary figure in the world of fashion and the arts.

Anna Wintour's Tribute to Lagerfeld & The MET Museum's Role in Honoring His Trajectory
Anna Wintour, a longtime friend and collaborator of Karl Lagerfeld, led the charge to honor the legendary designer at the Met Gala 2023. Under Wintour’s expert guidance and co-chaired by Penélope Cruz, Dua Lipa, Roger Federer, and Michaela Coel, the unforgettable event sought to encapsulate the essence of Lagerfeld’s work, allowing attendees to showcase his creations as true works of art. The event also highlighted Lagerfeld’s philanthropic efforts and his commitment to supporting young designers and artists throughout his lifetime.
To further highlight the designer’s legacy, The Metropolitan Museum of Art and The Costume Institute have developed an exclusive exhibition of Lagerfeld’s work, showcasing some of his most impressive designs and exploring the evolution of his style. The exhibition, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” offers a comprehensive look at Lagerfeld’s creative journey, from his early days at Pierre Balmain, Patou, and Chloé, to his tenure at Chanel and Fendi. The exhibition, on display from May 5th to July 16th, 2023, showcases approximately 150 designs, accompanied by sketches that underscore Lagerfeld’s intricate creative process and collaborative relationships with his premières or head seamstresses.
