During this past NYFW A/W 2019, Dennis Basso showcased its new collection at the majestic Cipriani, on 42nd Street. The location, one favored by the brand, was the perfect place for a collection inspired by the “New York City girl.” Opening to the music of Odyssey’s 1977 hit “Native New Yorker,” Dennis Basso delivered a collection which embodies the sophisticated woman the brand, and its designer caters to. “Our New York City woman never allows the clothes to wear her; she wears the clothes,” Mr. Basso tells us. “I think women around the world all have a desire to be a New York City woman. This allows her to experiment with fashion from high to low with a feeling of freedom, strength, and independence.”
The color palette for the collection was daffodil, faded pink, café, aubergine, and rose gold. Haberdashery coats and jackets with delicate touches were present throughout the lineup of outfits gliding down the runway. Fabrics included cashmere, mink, chinchilla, fox, sable, shearling, wool jacquard, duchess satin, mohair, and faux fur. Classic silhouettes include form-fitting dresses and strapless bodices with ball gown skirts. Cocktail dresses and evening gowns featured hand embellished flowers, beaded embroidery, metallic finishes, feathers, animal print, and hand pleating.
“My vision for my New York City girl is for her to select pieces from the collection, experiment, have fun, and enjoy her fashion freedom,” concluded Mr. Basso.
The event was attended by a line-up of celebrities, including Carol Alt (who closed the show), Olivia Palermo, Kelly Bensimon, Peter Brant, Jr., Jennifer Nettles, Stephanie Seymour, Michelle Gomez, Miss J Alexander, and Camille Kostek – GM
