During NYFW this February, Guild Magazine was granted backstage access to the Robert Geller x Lulumon runway show. During this show, Robert Geller showcased the AW19 collection, “Mountain Climbing to the Moon.” The collection is inspired by the shared spirit of adventure of Tibetan mountain climbers and astronauts’ lunar visits. The runway show featured a 12-piece Robert Geller x Lululemon collaboration that will launch in May.
This collaboration between Ben Stubbington, Lululemon’s Senior Vice President of Men’s Design, and Robert Geller compliment each other’s vision, with looks and pieces that can easily and quickly shift from sport to street style, keeping in mind the busy urban life of their clientele.
Fabrics for this collection were chosen with functionality in mind. A range of nylon, wool, and technical engineered performance fibers are found throughout the collection in colors that are both vibrant, but at the same time earthy, and for which Robert Geller worked with his Japanese team to find methods for dyeing this problematic combination of fabrics. Colors like moon landscape grey are a nod to moon exploration (now on it 50th anniversary) with cap-like headgear inspired by astronaut helmets and graphic sweatshirts that read “I love you to the moon and back.” -GM
