Afffair, Hollywood’s newest go-to luxury label, closed NYFW A/W 2019 this February with a feminine collection that was both empowering and sensual, as imagined by the Azerbaijani designer, Rufat Ismayil. Ismayil was inspired by a trip to North America where he was mesmerized by the beauty of the Monarch Butterfly’s intricate wings.
The runway dazzled with haute couture looks which ranged from cocktail to eveningwear, all embellished with intricate designs and delicate fabrics. The looks were beautified with headpieces made of beads, and feathers.
The show was opened by the Turkish supermodel, Tülin Sahin, wearing a two-piece ensemble that featured a beaded midriff bomber jacket and an emerald pleated skirt. Lace details dominated the runway, found in everything from cocktail dresses to sultry pantsuits. The designer also expertly implemented the use of velvet throughout the collection. The finale piece was a black velvet evening gown with a voluminous ruched bottom; the same outfit worn by singer Ashanti during The Grammy’s this month. The color palette consisted of emerald green, silver, black, and gold.
Notable attendees in the audience included Francesca Curran [Orange is the New Black], Rahmeka Cox [Miss New York 2018], amongst others. – GM
