New York City, NY. – For the Chocheng FW 2020 collection, the designer, Cho Cho Cheng, was inspired by the iconic heroines of classic cinema from the 1920s to the 1980s. They have been a continued source of inspiration throughout past collections.
For this new collection, the heroine of choice was Shirley Maclaine and her memorable style in the film, The Apartment. Cho was captivated by a press photo of the actress in a tuxedo, a bold fashion step for a female to take at the time. The male/female interplay is often evident in Chocheng shows, and the designer masterfully displays femininity and authority at once with each of his collections.
The color palette includes pops of hot pink, purple, and green. Silhouettes reference equestrian style, and trompe l’oeil jackets are at the forefront this season. Natural fabrics are used throughout the collection, such as hand-ruched tulle, Chocheng’s signature cotton boucle jackets, cotton crepe shirts, and handsewn petals accessories. All materials are natural and meticulously sourced from heritage suppliers in the UK. – GM
