New York City, NY. – During this New York Fashion Week F/W 2020, the internationally acclaimed Chinese-Dutch couture designer Sheguang Hu presented a collection inspired by industrial design. The collection came into fruition thanks to a collaboration with Bestune, a leading Chinese automobile brand. For those in attendance at Pier 59 Studios, it was clear that once again, Sheguang Hu was determined to amaze his audience. And, so he did, offering one of the best collections presented this season during a New York Fashion Week that was heavily impacted by the current world happenings related to the Coronavirus and a week schedule happening in conjunction with The Oscars.
Opening the show next to the world’s oldest supermodel, Carmen Dell’ Orefice, Sheguang Hu’s runway show and collection were infused with multiple elements of science and technology. Patent leather was the fabric of choice, regarded by the designer as the perfect representation of the sense of science and technology in industrial design. Yellow was a prominent color in the collection. It is a choice of color directly influenced by the Bestune T77 car, which was parked prominently in the middle of the runway. Green was also featured, symbolizing the healthy lifestyle promoted by Bestune T77 and the car’s all-important attribute of environmental protection and energy-saving. The designer also chose black as part of the color palette, echoing the abstract art of the West.
Over thirty international supermodels walked the runway, all carefully selected by the designer himself for their diverse backgrounds. For Sheguang Hu, who emigrated on his own from China to Amsterdam at the young age of 16 to pursue his dream for a better life, cultural exchange, and human emotions, have become the spirit of his collections.
Sheguang Hu has long been acknowledged as a genius in his field of design, and before becoming one of China’s top designers, his work was already making waves throughout Europe, where he became the dress designer of choice by the Netherlands’ royal family. Sheguang Hu has also been the winner of multiple prestigious awards, including the Netherlands Costume Art Award, the Netherlands Image Design Award, amongst many others. Sheguang Hu is also a guest professor at the Polytechnic University of Milan, Tsinghua University, and Beijing University.
