Sitting with the Guild Team at NYFW S/S 2020: Backstage with Afffair and Interview with the Creative Director, Rufat Ismayil

New York City – During NYFW S/S 2020, the luxury brand Afffair by the designer Rufat Ismayil showed a collection that stayed true to the designer’s roots. The line up of elegant, feminine, and empowering garments was inspired by a rare orchid (the Khari-bulbul) that grows in Ismayil’s country of birth, Azerbaijani.

For this red-carpet showstopper line up, the designer chose a pastel palette of colors, from soothing hues of mint, pink, lilac, purple and off-white, to powerful tangerine. Organza, crêpe chiffon, silk, and mesh details embellished with hundreds of elaborate crystal embroidery were used to bring this collection to a successful outcome. To add a touch of romanticism, and allure, the designer implemented the use of petal cutouts throughout each look. He accessorized the looks with crystal headpieces and embroidered tulle gloves. Melisa Erkol provided the shoes and accessories for the show.

Each garment in this collection was designed with the female figure in mind, as it is customary for the designer. With a clientele that includes Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Becky G, Beb Rexha, and many other influential figures of the entertainment industry, the looks ranged from mini dresses perfect for a cocktail event, to red-carpet gowns.
