New York City – During this New York Fashion Week, the brand, Custo Barcelona, showcased its collection for the coming Spring/Summer 2020 season. Titled ‘Wet Paint,’ the collection is inspired by female energy, strength, and individuality. While paying tribute to the modern woman who is not afraid to be daring and to speak her mind, the collection brings to mind – through the use of experimental lines, patterns, and symbolism – ancient mythology goddesses. Linear silhouettes and signature geometrical designs combine to offer playful glimpses of the body through the use of complex, and sensuous cut-outs. Throughout the collection, looks offer intriguing combinations of geometrically-cut strips and juxtaposed patterns. The finishing touch for the season includes subtle, ironic messages as embroidery and delicate multi-colored details. These decorative motifs add an irreverent and modern perception to the overall collection.
For this collection, Creative Director Custo Dalmau chose fabrics and materials that range from woven jacquards to technical textiles. Some of the looks and their fascinating textures were accentuated with the use of fringe.
“When you move into a new home, the first you do is paint it to create a clean canvas for a new life,” says Dalmau. “Similarly, with this collection – titled Wet Paint – we aim to do just that for the Custo Barcelona brand. Our goal this season is to ‘renovate’ the Custo DNA for the present and future through the creation of extremely emotional pieces.”
During this runway show, the brand also relaunched its menswear collection. Taking a page from the brand’s archives, Custo Dalmau created a capsule that is bold and colorful. While the men’s line up heavily focuses on swimwear, it complements the women’s collection with the choice of metallic fabrics and electrifying looks. – GM
