New York City – Although some designers continue to resist or struggle to move on from the soon-to-be-doom traditional Fashion Week format of models walking down a dull runway showcasing a collection (keeping in mind, of course, that putting on the simplest of runway shows is still quite costly), leave it to Phillip and David Blond to show the world how to really shut down the house, and create a formidable experience when it comes to a runway show. While gangster films inspired their last New York Fashion Week show and collection in February 2019, this time around, The Moulin Rouge was the creative inspiration behind The Blonds Spring/Summer 2020 collection.
The runway show, held on the stage of the new Broadway musical, enlisted the cast of the Moulin Rouge together with other celebrities who walked the stage in the show-stopping collection. The sparkling extravaganza also featured stage performances by Aaron Tveit and Billy Porter.
As in every The Blonds event, no detail was spared from diamonds, crystals, and shine. Besides Paris Hilton being rolled out on the Eiffel Tower and Phillipe Blond descending to the stage on a trampoline, The Blonds also collaborated with Ninebot KickScooter MAX for the show, incorporating a bedazzled scooter powered by Segway. “This season, the show is all about modern-day showgirls and Segway inspired us to create a showgirl on the go with a crystallized Ninebot KickScooter!,” said The Blonds. Scooters were also provided for pre-show prep allowing team members to quickly move around backstage prior to the show. The Blonds custom-designed the sleek and stylish Max and had it manufactured with Preciosa crystals.
Since before the launch of their brand, The Blonds have been a magnet for Entertainment’s A-list of celebrities due to their over-the-top style, heavily influenced by glittering glamour, and head-turning outfit and costumes. Notable attendees included from Paris Hilton (now a fixture of The Blonds’ runway shows) and Dascha Polanco (Orange Is the New Black), to Martha Stewart and many others. – GM
