With this Spring Summer 2020 collection, Parsons Graduate, YiQi Xia, continues to push the boundaries of her creativity. Traditionally since the launch of her brand in 2015, Xia implements the use of elastic materials throughout her collections. In this presentation, Xia showcased pieces that went from the traditional and cultural to the artistically inspired and the avant-garde, keeping the audience’s curiosity for what was to come next down the runway. The looks evoked a sense of relaxation and comfort through the implementation of loose shapes and forms while remaining modern and captivating to the eye.
HIUMAN
Launched by Human Chau in 2014, Hiuman is influenced by the travel experiences of its founder and creative director. Earth tones used throughout this collection add to a connection with nature; another source of inspiration for Chau. Chau studied in Paris and worked under John Galliano. However, beyond his experience with French fashion, Chau keeps true to his roots, drawing even more inspiration from literati paintings and traditional Oriental aesthetics. During this show, Chau showcased his first-ever womenswear collection.
LEAF XIA
Leaf Xia was founded by Parsons Graduate Yiqi Xia in 2015. Based between Shanghai and New York City, Leaf Xia is a brand that has quickly made its mark in the fashion world as one that is artistic, youthful, colorful, and for the woman not afraid to push boundaries. The duality of her roots has allowed Xia to blend both East and West iconography into her collections. Past collaborations for her designs have included partnerships with Magnum Ice Cream and Hello Kitty.
ALL COMES FROM NOTHING
To the ambient sound of birds and nature, All Comes From Nothing, by Eva Xu, showcased a contemporary collection that while experimental, it remained elegant and sophisticated. Xu has worked both with Ralph Lauren and Michael Kors, and this experience and its influence are clearly noted in the silhouette of some of her garments. The accentuating prints used throughout the collection offer an unexpected, and striking touch.
