Varese, Italy – The Missoni Man SS 2020 collection draws inspiration from the legendary style of Serge Gainsbourg; a multifaceted artist considered one of the most powerful, provocative, and influential figures in French popular music. Gainsbourg was an artist whose persona and talent embraced that sense of je ne sais quoi, with a touch of style that was formal while being informal, and was characterized by impulsive and unique attires representing the individual spirit of French fashion.
The Missoni Man SS 2020 collection follows Gainsbourg’s smooth and effortless sense of style which made the alternative cool and chic while mixing in a hint of bohemianism. The collection is carefree but delicately tailored, showcasing Missoni’s mission to make sport-luxe style the key choice within the closet of today’s modern man.
Colors are creatively used, with jungle green, turquoise and blues taking center stage. Sunflower yellow is reminiscent of the golden sands of the Mediterranea coast. Combinations of burgundy, browns, muted pinks and Prussian blue are evocative of the Parisian skies during those romantic sunsets characteristic of the City of Love and Romance. Referring to the Missoni Archives, we can find prints and patterns blending in unison with floral motifs and hand-painted watercolors.
The collection features versatile looks such as double-breasted blazers that are crafted in fine, lightweight, summer wool, and unstructured French peacoats constructed with an exclusive cotton twill fabric. The same style of peacoat is then re-imaged in a loom-knit fabric featuring a Missonified macro Vichy check pattern. A favorite is the line of belted trench-coats which are constructed in lightweight ikat loom-knit fabrics, and some are even infused with a unique aloe vera finish to provide extra softness to the piece. In the line-up, we can also find a selection of lightweight knitted crewnecks, shawl-collar cardigans, boat-necks, and polos showcasing from floral motifs to the iconic Missoni over-dyed patchworks. – GM
