Fashion in Motion: Preen by Thornton Bregazzi

London, England – This year’s V&A’s Fashion in Motion series will feature the designers of Preen by Thornton Bregazzi. Being held on Friday, June 21st, in the museum’s Raphael Gallery, the four runway shows will showcase archival and contemporary pieces featuring floral themes and pagan references. The shows pay homage to the Summer Solstice and its traditional celebration of growth, nature, and light.

Preen by Thornton was founded in 1996 by Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi. Their first collection debuted at London Fashion Week for Spring Summer 2001, establishing the brand nationally and internationally with its punkish-floral aesthetics while paying attention to vintage British elements and hand-made details. Since then, Preen by Thornton Bregazzi has grown from a small boutique in the coveted neighborhood of Notting Hill, to the global brand it is today. Its clientele is composed of the likes of Cate Blanchett, Gwyneth Paltrow, Naomi Watts, the Duchess of Cambridge, Rihanna, Beyoncé, and former First Lady Michelle Obama.

Excited to be headlining this year’s series, Justin and Thea tell us: “As a west London based brand, having the V&A on our doorstep is such a blessing – the museum has always been an endless source of inspiration for our designs. The first stop on a visit is always the Ceramics Galleries for the amazing collection of decorated porcelain. Elements of Victorian culture and costume seep into our collections, and the floral motifs of the arts and crafts movement often form the basis of our signature prints.”

The V&A’s Fashion in Motion series is the museum’s flagship fashion event. It offers guests the opportunity to appreciate international designers (up-and-coming as well as those well established) in a way they might not be able to due to the limitations of the major fashion week events throughout the world. The V&A’s Fashion in Motion series is the only museum runway series of its kind. Past designers who have participated in the 20 years since the series first began include Alexander McQueen, Yohji Yamamoto, Christian Lacroix, Missoni, Jean Paul Gaultier, amongst many other. – GM
